The Conductor

Rush Wagner, our talented and passionate director who has been inspiring and challenging the musicians of the New Prague Area Community Band since 2008. Rush was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, where he earned his Bachelor of Music on his principal instrument, the tuba, at the Victorian College of the Arts, and his Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne. He played with various ensembles and toured Australia, Singapore, and Japan, including with the Melbourne Youth Symphonic Band, which won the open "A" grade national championships in 1999, and where Rush was the leader from 1998 to 2000, an unusual position for a tubist.

In 2001, Rush began his teaching career as a music director in a rural school in Victoria, Australia. He moved to Minnesota in 2007, where he continued to inspire students. In 2011, he completed his Masters of Education: Teaching and Learning at Saint Mary's University.

As the director of the New Prague Area Community Band, Rush challenges the musicians to extend their abilities with a range of music from a variety of styles. His rigorous attention to detail and jovial attitude contribute to the dramatic improvement of the band's performance level, much to the enjoyment of both the musicians and audiences alike.
